Sustainability has traditionally been one of OeTTINGER’s core values. This is why our brewery, headquartered in Oettingen, has now been part of the Bavarian Environment and Climate Pact for more than 15 years. This year, we once again received an award from the Bavarian State Ministry of the Environment and Consumer Protection for our voluntary environmental contributions.

Our Brewery Group fulfills many of the criteria for participation: For example, all brewing sites are certified by independent auditors in accordance with the energy management system of the globally applicable norm ISO 50001 and are registered in the European Union’s Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS).

Here at OeTTINGER, continuous optimization of operating processes and investment in energy and resource-conserving technologies go hand in hand: For example, with our cogeneration unit at our Oettingen site, we benefit from increased energy efficiency by producing our own electricity. At the same time, we are in a position to cut CO2 emissions.

Head of local authority Stefan Rößle thanked our brewery for achievements such as these and for its commitment to environmental protection initiatives on behalf of the entire Donau-Ries district: “Businesses that independently and voluntarily help and obligate themselves to protect the environment by participating in the Environment and Climate Pact have become more important than ever.”

For us, environmental and climate protection means handling every kind of natural resource in an efficient manner. With our four brewing sites in Bavaria, Thuringia, North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony, we work regionally across Germany. In addition to running our breweries consistently at full capacity and utilizing modern technology across all operating areas, our short transportation distances – from the delivery of raw materials to the dispatch of beers, beer-mix drinks and soft drinks – represents another huge plus point for the environment. Even our reusable pool bottles have an ecological advantage: Depending on their condition, they can be refilled up to 50 times before eventually being sent off for recycling.

Managing Director Pia Kollmar also highlights our brewery’s commitment to environmental and climate protection: “Responsible management of natural resources stands at the center of our business. It is our stated goal to future-proof the company, which has been family-run since 1731, with the aim of handing it down to the tenth generation of the family.”

In the green: This year, we once again received an award from the Bavarian State Ministry of the Environment and Consumer Protection for our voluntary environmental contributions.

About the Bavarian Environment and Climate Pact

The Bavarian Environment and Climate Pact was established in 1995 and is an agreement between the Bavarian state government and Bavarian businesses. The overarching aim of the pact is to continue driving forward environmental and climate protection and to better protect natural foundations of life. All businesses in Bavaria which voluntarily take measures to protect the environment are eligible to participate.
