A few days ago (or, in this case, nights), around 9,500 runners took to the course for the 38th Braunschweig Night Run, turning downtown Braunschweig into a running party mile together with their families and all night running enthusiasts in the process.
With various races over different lengths, the Braunschweig Night Run is a sporting event for young and old alike. A varied program of fringe events was also arranged for both participants and spectators.
The team event got underway at 9.00 p.m. In this race, teams of at least four runners have to complete a course of 6.5 km – with every member needing to cross the finish line.
The Braunschweig-based “Team OeTTINGER” was represented by 15 runners competing across the distance of 6.5 km. The quickest runners in the team – Jörg Jäger (00:25:48), Max Meyer (00:33:16), Thomas Brehm (00:38:57) and Petra Schulz (00:40:14) – achieved a combined time of 2:18:15, which was good enough for 121st place overall in the team event (out of 296 competing teams). With his time of 00:25:48, Jörg Jäger even achieved 31st place in the individual standings.
The Braunschweig Night Run has been taking place since 1987 and is organised by the sports club MTV Braunschweig (Braunschweiger Männer-Turnverein von 1847 e.V.). The races always take place on a Friday in June, from the early evening until midnight, through the heart of Braunschweig. Every year, around 10,000 runners compete in the nine different races, while roughly 30,000 spectators line the route to cheer them on and wish them luck.
